Abigail

Hi everyone – frequent visitors to Chichester Cattery may already know us – cute aren’t we? Our names are Sylvester (the silver/blue one) and Hardy (the red one - or sorrel colour if you want to be picky). Sylvester is a Somali and used to be a show cat (he won lots of prizes) – it’s a good job his previous owners can’t see him slug collecting in the garden! Hardy is a Somali Variant (bred from an Abyssinian and a Somali) and has a broken tail that was damaged when he was a small kitten.

We live with Lynda and Paul and until October 2001 lived in Kent. After a very traumatic car journey we stayed in Chichester Cattery while our owners looked for a new house for us. We hated catteries having stayed in one in Kent where the accommodation was OK and the food was OK but no-one really cared for us. We were very nervous of going into a cattery for a long time (or was that our owners) but found that, after we’d made the usual fuss at being in a strange place, Matthew and Lillian made us feel really at home, in fact it was a bit of a wrench going into the rented house while our new home was being built.

We’ve been to see Matthew many times since we moved down here and try very hard to be on our best behaviour although we would rather be chasing frogs and worms and savaging tiny furry things. It’s amazing how many worms we can get through the cat door while our owners are at work – we think 10 is the best we’ve done so far, it’s great fun watching them slip over the kitchen floor (the worms not Lynda and Paul). It’s also amazing fun bringing in bouncy frogs and dropping them on the bed – we like watching our owners move so quickly first thing in the morning. Our really best game is headbutting Lynda and Paul while they are asleep to see how long it takes them to wake up. We haven’t tried this on Matthew as so far we haven’t made it into the house – but give us time …….
